Reach out to our youth before we lose them

Podar Institute of Education conducted this survey with young boys and girls in the age range of 20 years to 25 years.  India, today, is called a youthful country as we have more youth today and they are looking for a future. The purpose of the survey was to find out, is our youth healthy, happy? Do they have a vision in life? Do they know the difference between right and wrong? Are they resilient?

The survey was conducted with 700 young boys and girls, to keep the figures exact we took 350 boys and 350 girls, age range was mixed between 20 years to 25 years. The results were heartening and disappointing, as we can see that there is hope for our youth and our youth have ideas but a lack of leadership, a mentor and this can lead our youth astray. This is especially important today with so many youngsters falling into bad company and incorrect philosophies. Its time we mull over the results of this study and work towards giving our youth, leaders that they can emulate, family that can support and not criticize, and parents that can understand and not expect.
The survey was done as an individual interview for those who did not want to fill survey form. It was started in first week August and we completed it around 10th November, we went to public places that are frequented by youth like malls, coffee shops and even railway stations. Our students of Podar Institute of Education conducted the survey and then the results were compiled by our core team. (no we cannot name the students who did the survey or the people who compiled the results)

We want this survey to highlight to parents, that they need to bridge the generation gap between themselves and their young boys and girls so that our youth find it easy to take advice or find solutions to their problems by approaching safe adults rather than finding online help or falling prey to drugs etc.

Our country presently has the highest number of youth and we need to take care of this human resource as they are going to build future families, take care of children, and make decisions for our country. If they are going to be depressed or have broken marriages then the emotional intelligence of our youth will be diminished and lead to bigger problems for the growth and development of our country.

Good going Podar Institute of Education an excellent survey done in time .Myself being a part of the youth the results sre shocking and heartbreaking to see the views of our youth . Relationships,Depression,Social media, Health, Self image , are all on the higher side in turn shows we are loosing hope for future. Our country's youth needs support before we lose them.

It is an eyeopener for parents and educationist. This also gives an insight where we need to empower our youth. The results when we go through each parameter we understand that the career aspect which is the most important for the future life building till date in this world also depends on the friends. children have no choices and cannot make decisions and work towards it.
With so many options and avenues and the way the girls education and empowerment we are talking about still the girls survey shows a dip.
Thank you Podar Education Network for educating us on yet another important topic."REACH OUT TO OUR YOUTH BEFORE WE LOSE THEM"

Respected Ma'am,

Thank You for sharing an eye opening survey. It is truly devastating to know that the young generation is heading towards self destruction mode.Parents first need to be educated so that they can mould their children from the early age as the Maslow's theory suggests that the needs are all interrelated and the same will be achieved only if the basic needs of each level is taken care of,only then the individual can move forward in life.

Unknown said...

Hope this survey reaches the right people at tha right time! The results are not only shocking but also reflective of our morden society and it's thinking pattern that is still traditional. We speak about educating girl child, but we do not give her the choice to chose her career. Also, it gives us a preview about what today's youth feels and thinks - Sucidial thoughts, peer pressure and low self esteem!

I feel it's high time we as parents and educators in real sense approach the youth as friends and have an open communication relationship with them.

Good work by Podar Education Network!hope you can reach out to maximum parents and children with the results!

The survey is extensive and gives a deep insight in thw thoughts, likes and values of our today's youth. The survey displays that the youth of our country are going high on materialistic values and peer pressure and competition. Youth is going far away from our culture, values ,empathy and sensitivity.

Definitely girls are scoring better than boys but yet is not encouraging.

What I see the reason is :

1. Parents choosing to have children after many years of marriage and thus causing huge age gap amongst them. This leads to a generation gap and which in turn leads to parents not understanding childre and vice versa .

2. Authoritarian parenting seeping in which makes rebels.

3. Giving children into their demands making them materialistic.

4. Parents busy making careers and earning money which leads to lack of emotional bonding and youth finds it in their peers .

5. Burden of expectation rising among parents on their children.

So In all , we as parents are responsible for this rising menace in the youth and to change the change has to start with us.

Thank You swati ma'am for a survey which will be a Warning Sign for all youth and parents!!! Its really very disappointing to see that the country that we are living in has youth and future mature citizens who are not happy with their own look and feel more depressed.
Its high time that the parents get alert and try to understand their children's silence!!

Thanking the complete team of Podar Education network for such an eye opening survey

This survey shows the different views of youth today. After reading this entire article I came to know today's youth boys are confused about their career and girls are depending on parent's opinion and so many things. Why these youngsters are don't have their own and strong opinions? Parents have to start to think now. If this generation does not find solutions to their problems by approaching safe adults, of course they will not maintain strong bonding with their parents and will unknowingly select the wrong direction. Now parents have to wake up and have to start to give time for their children to talk freely. They can share their own experiences with children. Girls should grow in stress free environment and boys should have their firm decisions. Parents should aware that in our family we should support to young boys/girls and not criticize. They should become parents those who will understand and not expect. If adults will start to respect youngsters views, they will get the same in return.

This survey is an eye opener to parents, teachers and the society.the casual attitude of our new generation towards their life is an alarming sign for all of us as the sense of responsibility is not been developed in them which is due to lack of emotional feeling and people or children who are not emotionally secured are the one who are threat to themselves, family and society. It is not the children's mistake we need to do a reality check with ourselves for are we spending quality time with our children, are we there in those difficult days /moment of our children, have we gained their trust, are we understanding their needs or no.Ones we have achieved all these aspects i'm sure this survey done by our Podar Institute of Education will be definitely have change in their percentage.Hoping to see a change in our new generation.Thank you.

Thank you Swati ma'am for sharing such an important blog with us. It is a survey that really help us know the real youth of today. We as an adult don't realize what the youth of our country must be actually going through, as somewhere we are responsible for the problems that they are facing. Parents and guardian must understand how important it is to spend quality time with our children, inculcate good values and culture in them on right time and in right manner. Also, guide them as a friend by making them comfortable, by listening to their problems from their point of view, considering ourselves in their place. It is always better late than never.

Shambhavi Sinha :- Good that this survey happened. Seeing the current situation of crime, abuses ans harassment it is very important to educate persons at every age group. The survey percentage clearly describes the ignorance by parents wherein they might not be open to their children after certain age point. Thus whereas these survey should also be done on parents at every age group so that they can take care of their child/ children effectively.

Thanks to Podar Institute of Education for the eye opening survey. The youth who are the back bone of the nation need to be guided on the right path. This should reach to each parent for them to understand where the generation is heading. This will also help the parents understand when and where their children need support and guidance.
Surprisingly the parents are unaware of many facts related to their children like depression, suicide, relationships etc. This indeed is a wake up call for each and every parent.
Thank you Ma'am for sharing this blog.

It's very important to have open discussions with youth. Parents need to be more concerned with what their children are led to believe. The attitudes and actions spring from their value system and their value system is based on what they believe. It is very important that their values and beliefs are built on solid foundation. Two lasting gifts we can hope to give our children, One is roots and other is wings. A wonderful insight on today's youth. Thank you ma'am for an excellent article

Respected Ma'am,

Thank you and the Podar Institute of Education team for conducting this survey that has helped to know that the future of the country is going through a bad phase and needs help from their elders to help the country grow towards heights. And to help the young generation the parents and educators needs to be taught that, they have to have a friendly relation which will in turn help their children to share the problems and reach a solution. In this way the young generation is taken care of.

It is vey distressing to know their callous attitude towards marriage and sex and that their desicions are still driven by peer pressure. Youth of today are the driving force of tomorrow. “Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.” The mentioned Quote is seems to be a contradictory statment with the present survey of YOUTH INDIA.This article should not be said as shocking or eye opener as all of us are aware that "What we sow we get that" its up to us .So the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured of this youth and it starts from giving a quality time to ourself ,our kids, our family, neighbours, community and so on rather then blaming today's Youth............. Becoz “It's never too late to have a happy childhood.”.
Once again thank You Swati Ma'am to show us the mirror through this survey and big thanks to Podar Institute of education for conducting the survey and putting the facts and figures to get up and start initiating what we can do to show right direction to our youth. With respect and Regards,

This survey is an eye-opener to all the parents. The survey says that our youth are now being more materialistic with least importance to values, culture and empathy. Our parents need to have strong bonding with their children and help them not to choose the wrong direction. Inspite of having the generation gap, parents should spend quality time with their younger children , understand them and be friends with them. The success of parenting lies in how effectively they avoid the generation gap or ignore the differences with kids.

A great eye opening survey done by Podar Education Network. It's really a heart-rending fact standing in front of us. Present generation is not happy. Today's parents' love for their kids is to provide them materialistic things, and in this process they have created a huge gap between them. Parents should create such an atmosphere at home so that their kids feel free to share each and everything with them and together they will strive for the betterment.

Looking at the stress level of today's youth this survey is an eye opener. Being Indians we normally hide things which should be spoken or discussed with our kids. Sex like topics are learned from source which are not reliable source like videos , actually it need to be from parents. This survey is very helpful for everyone to make society move towards flourishment if action taken on proper time.

Sex like topics are learned from source which are not reliable source like videos , actually it need to be from parents. This survey is very helpful for everyone to make society move towards flourishment if action taken on proper time.

A great job done by Podar Education Network. It is indeed an eyeopening message for parents as well as educators. It is very important to build a strong relationship with our children by trusting them.At times children follow the wrong path because they feel they are doubted upon by their parents. It is also essential that we inculcate moral values and ethics in their hearts and minds which will definitely build a country with responsible youth.

This survey is a real Eye-opener. As it is, there are too many avenues, especially the social media, for today's youth to explore. As a mother of 2 growing up daughters and also as a teacher, I feel that it is really important that our youth need to be guided properly vis a vis relationships as well as conforming to peer-pressure.
Thank you Ma'am for this enlightening survey and article.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Rashmi Gawde

This is an eyeopener survey done by the institute. This is important for all the parents to see and think about it seriously. It is very important for every youth to have a guide a mentor to share their views and get guidance about their interest and its development in right direction. These days youth is doing things maximum because of their friends influence and have a very strong issue of status in society. Right or wrong is not understood my them as they are just doing tings because friends are doing it Youth needs a strong guidance. It should be a guidance and not the force or stress of doing any thing. Even they should be given choice of their interest. Adults, parents, educationist have a very important role to play to guide the youth as the youth now-a-days is very strong as well as very sensitive. This survey is very helpful for everyone to make society move towards flourishment if action taken on proper time and with proper technique.

Thank you Ma'am for sharing the article with us. Its an eyeopener for us. It has left us with shock and worry as to where our youth is leading to.As parents and as part of society it is important for us to become the backbone of our children. The kind exposure towards different cultures and coming of so many social sites it is important that we have open conversation with our children. And at the same time we need to learn to respect them for their views and believes. It is also important that their is bridging of generation gap.As Adults, Parents, Educationist its our duty to support, guide and respect our children.

Thank you Ma'am and PIE for conducting this survey. Yes indeed this is really the facts which the parents have to look on and not be just busy with there work. The social media now a days has made everything more visible to children. The survey aptly says that the children should understand the parents and parents also need to have a vigilance on children and must understand the needs of the children as they grow day by day. If we always try to be at there back for helping them then children slips down somewhere.
The Children and parents need to understand each other and always be as friends as the age gap remains but then todays new generation needs a friends hand more so as a guide,an educationist and a parent for new generation let's build our minds that the children understands us and wee are always there to listen and help them in any matter they feel trouble or feel proud of.

GIVE CHILD THE TIME, LOVE AND CARE NOW AND PRESERVE YOUR FUTURE FOR BETTER TOMORROW.

An educative blog to all people who are involved in dealing and handling the youth, as the exposure to the upcoming generation is limitless, and the helathy family time is becoming extinct..
The resonsibility lies on all our shoulders to nurture the youth with love, care and time rather than simply criticize them, instead give an heed to their opinion also and only try to guide them, rather than being judgmental....
